The National Roma Centrum, in the framework of its election campaign, delivers messages through educational materials and also through campaign songs composed with the aim to educate the public and to deliver its message. These songs have been created in cooperation with the composers Valentino Skenderovski and Boban Serafimovski.You can download the songs for free.

ROMA CAMPAIGN FOR ELECTION EDUCATION „Dzan“

PLAY FAIR FOR FAIR ELECTIONS

The National Roma Centrum held a press conference today in the NGO Info center in Skopje, on which the pre election campaign was presented, called DZAN (in translation GO). The campaign has for a goal to educate and to motivate the Roma to come out and vote on the 5th of July 2006. The election process is an important moment where freedom of expression SHOULD BE respected, and promotion of mutual understanding, tolerance and raising awareness that the Roma need to be equal participants SHOULD BE A FACT, was pointed out by the coordinator of the campaign Asmet Elezovski. About the participation of the women in the election process, for the role of the members as educators of the Roma women as equal participants and voters and for the participation of members from the Roma women Association – Esma as observers during the elections, stated the President of this association Kevsera Memedova. Elezovski called upon all of the citizens for active participation on the parliamentary elections pointing out the need for mutual consideration of the importance of the election process, and he also pointed out that this process should not be seen as an event. Campaign for electoral education on roma in Macedonia “Džan”

Fair play for fair participation

National Roma Centrum from Kumanovo is organizing the campaign „Džan“ (translated: go, know), in order to increase the level of Roma participation in all forms of civil participation in the society. The organization will work on education and motivation on Romani voters to be involved in the electoral process for the Parliamentary elections in Macedonia. The campaign is organized with support by Roma Participation Programme Budapest. Through our working programme and propaganda material as well with basic instructions, we want to convey a message to stop with the manipulation of Roma votes. Our idea is to promote tolerance and fair elections throughout football matches that will be organized as part of our campaign. These football matches will be manner for young Roma to be in situation to promote fair-play as way of promotion of the responsibility for participation in the electoral process. (more…)

NGOs Urge Macedonian Authorities to Investigate Death of Trajan Bekirov

Romani Youth Last Seen Alive While Being Chased by Police

16 June 2006, Budapest, Skopje. The European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC) and the National Roma Centrum (NRC) sent a letter to Dr. Vlado Buckovski, Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia expressing grave concern about the recent death of a Romani youth named Trajan Bekirov, and urging that Macedonian authorities to carry out a prompt, thorough and effective investigation. Copies of the letter were also sent to Ms. Meri Mladenovska Gjorgjievska, Minister of Justice, Mr. Ljubomir Mihajlovski, Minister of Interior, and Mr. Aleksandar Prcevski, Public Prosecutor of the Republic of Macedonia. Seventeen-year-old Trajan Bekirov was last seen alive after Macedonian police “Alfi” units chased him and his friend, Orhan Isemi, on 11 May 2006. His body was discovered on 28 May 2006 in the river Vardar near the village of Tubarevo. The Institute for Judicial Medicine carried out an autopsy, the result of which is still unknown. A criminal investigation is reportedly open, but as of the date of this letter, no results have been made public. Media articles in Macedonia have featured sensational allegations, such as the contention that Trajan Bekirov’s organs may have been stolen. Trajan Bekirov’s parents believe the initial police chase was influenced by racial considerations. They also allege an anti-Romani bias among Macedonian authorities. (more…)
