ALL COLORS ARE BEAUTIFUL

On behalf of the 10th FARE Action Week against Racism (15 -27 October 2009), the National Roma Centrum in cooperation with the FARE network, which is being supported by the UEFA, and in cooperation with Open Fan Football, on Saturday 17.10.2009, at 11:00 o’clock organized a sports event. Many young people, from various nationalities from Kumanovo took part in this activity. Also several former football players were invited to take part in this event and NRC’s manager, Asmet Elezovski and the president of the municipal council of Kumanovo, Viktor Cvetkovic held speeches and explained to the youngsters how can they contribute for abolishing of racism and discrimination in football. Before the official start of the Action Week, NRC’s youngest members were out in the field handing out flyers and placing the posters all over the city, in schools. The network has active partners in over 40 countries and cooperates with fans, players, migrants and ethnic minority organizations as well as with FIFA and UEFA. The main purpose of this event was to promote the “Week Against Racism”, in order to decrease prejudice and stereotypes that exist in football.

Participation to the conference on youth health

brusselsThe coordinator of the project prosperity and health of Roma women, path towards challenges, met with the Commissioner for health in the European Commission, Mrs. Androula Vasiliou.

brusselsBe healthy, be you” was the title of the youth conference for health organized by the European Commission.

Sebihana Skenderovska in cooperation and support of the Roma Health Program from Budapest, participated on the conference where with mutual efforts the attention was turned on the serious health issues of Roma in Europa.

The Roma participants pointed out on the reality that Roma in Europe do not have the same conditions for participation in the health system, as the other nationalities in many European countries and are one of the largest minorities of this continent. Discrimination is the main factor that affirms the inequality on all fields with this old European population.

New year’s packets for around hundred pupils

Due to the forthcoming New Year 2009, National Roma Centrum in accordance with current possibilities, has distributed packets for 100 first graders from Kumanovo primary schools. NRC wants to motivate children from low income families, due to the fact that their parents were unable to provide these packages for them.

NRC tооk part in the EU Roma Summit

On 16 September 2008, the European Commission’s first ‘EU Roma Summit’ took place in Brussels , under the joint patronage of the Commission President José Manuel Barroso and the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Asmet Elezovski and Sebihana Skenderovska attend the Summit as representatives of National Roma Centrum.

The Summit aims to promote a firm commitment to tackling concrete problems and to creating a better understanding of the situation of Roma across Europe.

"The European Commission has called for joint efforts by the EU and its member countries to bring Roma into mainstream society. It is urging national governments to step up efforts to help Roma access schools, housing, jobs and health services. Roma leaders and human rights advocates were among 400 people attending the summit organised by the commission. The aim was threefold:

Day of the tree – Plant your futureOn behalf of the massive action under the motto “Day of the tree – Plant your future” (2.4 million trees planted in Republic of Macedonia), which was realized on the 12th March 2008 supported by the Government of Republic of Macedonia, the local government, artists, citizens of Republic of Macedonia… the area for planting the trees in the area of Kumanovo was the village Celopek, where NRC’s member activists took full participation.
