On Tuesday, 18th of December, in multimedia center “Mala Stanica” based in Skopje, Macedonia, National Roma Centrum organized projection and presentation of the documentary movie” Empowering Romani women, empowering Roma community”.

The documentary movie is challenging supererogation of the problem with personal documentation of Romani women in the Macedonian society. Via this movie NRC wants to alarm about the situation of this women, living on the edges of society. Author of the movie is Mr. Dragan Antonovski, and the production is of National Roma Centrum.

International Conference
Organized with the Hungarian Government
Budapest, 2-3 April, 2007

Conference for educational reforms in Central and East Europe and Roma inclusion was organized by Roma Education Fund (REF) in Budapest, on which representatives of governmental institutions, NGO’s, and donors organizations were participating.  Many issues and important educational topics for Roma were discussed during the days of the Conference. Through the roundtable discussions positive experiences and best practices were presented from the projects realized so far with the support by REF. All proposals and suggestions will be send additionally to the participants for further reviewing and discussion, till the final summary is expressed in evaluation form.

NRC’s representatives participated at the Conference, and the documentary movie "The key is in your hands" was presented to the participants, and NRC’s Annual report 2006 was also promoted.

Skopje, 31st of January (MIA) – The Roma issue in Macedonia – lack of knowledge or lack of political will is a subject on the today’s public hearing which is held in the Assembly of Republic of Macedonia.

According to the report of the European Roma Rights Centre and the National Roma Centrum from Republic of Macedonia, the Roma in Macedonia in regard of employment and conditions for work are in a very difficult condition.

The report states the 31% of the Roma in Macedonia do not have any education and as a result of that many of them are unemployed or do manual labor.

European Roma and Travellers Forum adopts resolution on Roma in Europe

Strasbourg, 9 November 2006: By the end of its three days meeting the Plenary Assembly of the European Roma and Travellers Forum adopted a resolution by which it urged the Committee of Ministers and the European Council to adopt a European Roma Rights Charter. Such a charter should become a legally binding instrument forcing national governments and international organisations to respect the rights of the Roma. Delegates from all more than 40 Council of Europe member states including representatives of the seven main international Roma organisations met at the Palais de l’Europe in Strasbourg to discuss the situation of Roma in Europe. In country reports discrimination in the field of education, housing, health and employment were highlighted. Several delegates highlighted how existing Human rights instruments and anti-discrimination are not properly applied to the situation of Roma. They also expressed criticism at the fact that political initiatives aimed to addressing the plight of Roma often do not take into account the actual needs of their intended beneficiaries. (more…)
